Every time I look at this photo, I want to leave my desk and go to the Island! It was obviously one of those idyllic days (they are usually a Sunday in my experience) where everyone says, "I just don't want to leave." It was 2004 when we launched the MICAT. She still seems new to me, but I do lose track of time easily.
The Moreotn Venture was launched in 1986, 26 years ago. The funny thing is that she is still quite a modern vessel compared to some that still ply Moreton Bay. We still keep her in good condition and she will be coming back to Brisbane in October to be slipped again and have another coat of paint.
On this day, we were using the Moreton Venture for freight whilst the MICAT took the vehicles. It has been a long while since much freight travelled to the Island for construction, so as it stands the Moreton Venture will remain away for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile, I am happy to keep gazing at the picture, with The Wrecks in the background and that beautiful piece of beach always in the back of my mind. Everyone should have one of these pictures floating around their office or house so you can take a few minutes to dream of another place whilst you slave away, doing those things you need to do, so you can visit one day again soon.
