Cast you mind back (if you were even alive) to 1973 - I was only nine! Pictured here is our first shop on Moreton Island, at Kooringal. If you look closely you can see the BP logo on the side of the garage. The dark green VW country buggy was our way of getting the stores from the ferry, which at the time was a 23' speed boat, up to the shop. I can remember my favourite part was helping to carry the lollies and other yummy items and arrange them behind the counter, of course I always ate more than I sold. The lollies were 3 for 1 cent - what a bargain.
In 1974, this shop flooded completely and I spent my time transferring groceries across the road to dry ground so people could purchase them on a coolite surfboard. Today, if you drive to the Northern most part of Kooringal, the shed that was the shop is still there. Although there is now a lovely house on the block to accompany it.
