Roz's Blog - Mother's Day
Wednesday, 16 May, 2012

Last Sunday saw another Mother's Day pass, and as always I felt truly privileged to have three wonderful children....well they are now adults, but will always remain kids to me.

The picture in this week's blog is a tradition each year, as in our breeding years, the Hawkins children of Neville and Shirley tended to add one or two each year! Only my eldest - Rachael, who is held there by Shirley (my Mum) - was actually alive back then.

Hawkins Family Mother's Day Photo with the Hanomag Loader
The "hanomag", which is the brand of the loader, was famous back then. She was used to help build the units at Tangalooma as well as service the dumps and deliver freight to all townships. Dad also built the second Middle Road for National Parks with this loader - a relatively small machine to forge a road through thick bush. Of course in those days, it was a simple exercise of National Parks saying to Dad, "Just build the road Nev." - no red tape. Funnily enough, it was built in a couple of days without mcuh hassle and stands today (although the hills have been replaced by cuttings over time).
